Air Conditioning in Essex

Refcom F-Gas registered installs that cool in summer and heat in winter

Air Conditioning in Essex

Air conditioning is no longer a summer-only kit. Modern split systems heat as efficiently as they cool, which means a single unit takes the edge off the hottest week of the year and keeps a cold morning workshop, conservatory or home office comfortable in January. We design and install systems that earn their keep all twelve months.

Every install is carried out by Refcom F-Gas registered engineers. That's the legal requirement for handling refrigerant in the UK, and it's what protects the warranty on the kit you're paying for. We work with Mitsubishi, Daikin, Panasonic and Samsung depending on what suits the property best.

Most domestic single-room installs land between £1,000 and £2,000 fully fitted. We size the unit to the room rather than over-spec, route the pipework to keep cabling tidy, and commission the system properly so it runs at the published efficiency.

After install, we offer annual servicing to keep the system clean and the warranty current. Filter cleans, refrigerant checks and electrical safety inspections are all rolled into one visit so the running cost stays predictable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Air Conditioning Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Brentwood, Billericay, Doddinghurst, Blackmore, Basildon, Wickford and Chelmsford as our core area. If you're slightly outside, give us a call on 07776 009 239 and we'll let you know straight away whether the job is a fit.

How long have you been trading?

James started on the tools at 17 and worked with British Gas for over 20 years before founding JWD Heating & Plumbing. The senior engineers all carry the same long-form experience, which is why we can survey, install and service every part of the system in one visit.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. We are Gas Safe registered for all boiler, heating and gas work, and Refcom F-Gas certified for air conditioning. The cards travel with us on every visit, so feel free to ask to see them when we arrive.

What are your hours?

We work 06:00 to 23:00, seven days a week. Genuine emergencies outside that window get answered too, but a callout fee applies. Most jobs are booked in during the standard working day.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. Quotes are free and fixed in writing for installs, with no obligation. For service and repair work we'll give a clear price up front. Either call 07776 009 239 or send an enquiry through the form and we'll come back the same day.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card, bank transfer and cash. Payment is normally taken on completion of the work. For larger installs we can split the payment across the start and end of the job, which helps a lot of homeowners plan.

How much does a new boiler cost?

A typical domestic boiler install lands between £1,000 and £3,000, including the boiler, the fit and the removal of the old unit. The exact figure depends on the brand chosen, the size of the system, and any pipework changes. We give a fixed written quote after a brief survey.

How long does the installation take?

A like-for-like swap is usually one to two days from start to finish. Larger jobs, like a conventional-to-combi conversion or a full heating overhaul, can run three or four days. We'll give you a clear timeline as part of the quote so you can plan around it.

What boiler brands do you install?

All major brands, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal and Glowworm. We pick the brand that fits the home and the budget, and we'll explain the warranty differences in plain English so you can choose with confidence.

Do you remove the old boiler?

Yes, removal and safe disposal of the old unit is included in every install quote. You don't need to arrange anything separately. We leave the work area clean and take everything away with us.

What warranty do new boilers come with?

Most of our installs come with manufacturer warranties of 7 to 10 years on parts and labour, depending on the brand and model. We register the warranty in your name on the day of install, and we leave the paperwork on site for your records.

Do you offer finance on a new boiler?

We don't run a finance scheme directly, but we keep the pricing competitive and we can split the payment across stages on larger jobs. Card, bank transfer and cash are all fine, and the quote breaks down what's covered.

How much is a boiler service?

A standard annual service runs from £85 to £200 depending on the boiler. That includes a full inspection, clean of the burner and heat exchanger, gas pressure and combustion checks, and a written record for warranty and landlord paperwork.

How often should I service my boiler?

Once a year. Annual servicing keeps the manufacturer warranty valid, catches small problems before they turn into expensive ones, and keeps the boiler running at the efficiency it was designed to. Autumn is the busy season, so book early if you can.

Can you fix the boiler the same day?

Most of the time, yes. We carry common spares in the van and aim to fix on the first visit. If a manufacturer-specific part needs ordering we'll tell you straight away, and we'll book the return visit for the next available slot rather than leaving you guessing.

Do you do landlord Gas Safety Certificates?

Yes. We provide annual CP12 Landlord Gas Safety Certificates across Brentwood, Billericay and Chelmsford, and we co-ordinate access with tenants directly. The certificate is sent digitally on the same day.

Can you repair every boiler brand?

Yes. Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glowworm, Viessmann and the rest. Two decades of British Gas time and ongoing manufacturer training means we can fault-find quickly and source parts fast.

What if the boiler is past economic repair?

We'll tell you honestly. If the cost of repair gets close to a replacement, we'll explain the trade-off and put a no-pressure replacement quote in front of you. The decision is always yours, and there's no hard sell.

Can I use my AC unit in winter?

Yes. Modern split systems run as heat pumps in reverse, so the same unit cools in summer and heats efficiently in winter. That makes them genuinely year-round kit, especially for offices, conservatories and home workspaces.

How much does an AC install cost?

Most domestic single-room installs land between £1,000 and £2,000 fully fitted. Larger multi-split systems for several rooms cost more, but the per-room price drops once the outdoor condenser is shared. We give a fixed quote after a survey.

Do I need a Refcom registered installer?

Yes. By law, anyone handling refrigerant in the UK must be F-Gas certified. We are Refcom registered, which is the trade body that audits and proves it. Using a non-registered installer can void the kit warranty and the homeowner insurance.

Which AC brands do you fit?

Mitsubishi, Daikin, Panasonic and Samsung are the main four we install. We pick the brand based on the room size, the energy rating you want, and the warranty you'd prefer.

Do AC units need servicing?

Yes, once a year. The service covers a filter clean, refrigerant check, electrical safety inspection and an efficiency log. It keeps the running cost predictable and protects the warranty.

What is powerflushing?

It's a deep clean of the central heating system. We push fresh water through every radiator at high flow with a magnetic filter on the loop, capture the iron oxide and sludge, then re-dose the system with corrosion inhibitor before re-commissioning.

How do I know if I need one?

Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, slow warm-up, banging noises from the boiler, or a thermostat reading that never quite matches the room are all signs. If you're booking a new boiler, the manufacturer almost always requires the system to be flushed first to keep the warranty valid.

How much does a powerflush cost?

Most jobs run from £375 to £900 depending on radiator count and how badly the system has been neglected. We give a fixed quote after a brief survey and tell you what we'll find before we start.

How long does it take?

Most powerflushes wrap up in a single working day. We test every radiator for warmth top-to-bottom and walk you through the results so you can see exactly what changed.

What's the benefit?

A flushed system runs hotter for less gas, recovers heat output across older radiators, and protects the heat exchanger in your boiler. Think of it like an oil change for your heating, the running cost drops and the boiler lasts longer.
